Our Story

The Problem
Traditional dental x-rays have long been the standard in dental diagnostics, but they come with several drawbacks that warrant consideration. Firstly, traditional x-rays involve exposure to ionizing radiation, albeit low, which accumulates over time and may pose a risk, particularly for frequent dental patients or vulnerable populations such as pregnant women and children.
In addition, Dental x-rays often appear as abstract images to patients, making it challenging for them to interpret and comprehend the findings without professional guidance. This lack of clarity can lead to confusion and anxiety among patients, hindering effective communication about their oral health.

The Idea
The concept driving LiteWing is to develop an intraoral lighting system that empowers dental professionals to swiftly capture highly diagnostic images showcasing early-stage lesions of both hard and soft tissues. These images can then be effortlessly shared and communicated with patients, streamlining the treatment planning process for enhanced efficiency and patient engagement.

The Solution
LiteWing addresses the issue of exposing patients to unnecessary ionizing radiation by offering a non-invasive transillumination method for capturing highly diagnostic images of dental issues, eliminating the need for traditional x-rays in certain cases. Additionally, by providing clear, easily understandable images of oral health conditions, LiteWing enhances patient communication, fostering better understanding and engagement in the treatment process.
